Freycinet National Park
The crew and Paul arrived in Hobart on Saturday, raring to go and tackle all that Tasmania has to offer. After picking up the crew car from Thrifty at the airport, we headed off to the first location…
And not a bad first location: Freycinet National Park.
Driving instructions: Approx. 2.5 hours north along the Tasman Highway (A3) Drive from Hobart Airport to Sorell. At the centre of the Sorell township, turn left at the “T” junction towards Orford and follow the A3 to Coles Bay and the Freycinet Peninsula. Once you reach Coles Bay, Freycinet Lodge is at the other side of the town, within Freycinet National Park and nestled beneath the Hazards Mountains.
We were lucky enough to be staying at Freycinet Lodge, the only accommodation inside Freycinet National Park. As the gateway to the magnificent grandeur that is the Freycinet region, the Lodge is amazingly well integrated into the natural environment, so well that it is virtually invisible when viewed from across the bay.
We were early to bed after the 4.30pm Tastes of Tasmania wine tasting on the balcony of the lodge over looking Coles Bay followed by a great meal in Richardson’s Bistro, as the 4.00am wake up call was coming all too soon.
