The Taiwan International Orchid Show attracts orchid enthusiasts, gardening hobbyists, horticultural experts, and regular folk alike. The elaborate set up encourages the amalgamation of industry professionals and ordinary visitors, and provides a great day out for visitors to the country. Over 1046 plants are entered into the show and there is only one prize up for grabs. Judged by over 200 local and international judges, the Phalaenopsis was deemed this year’s winner. The orchid has 76 flowers and is a pure white colour.

Gifted with rich biological resources, Taiwan is deemed one of the world’s most important venues for orchid growing. Taiwan has many original species, plus more than one hundred years of orchid growing and twenty some years of industry development that fosters an environment that contributes to Taiwan’s diversified orchid species.

Taiwan is the world’s largest orchid exporter. In the past two years, Phalaenopsis had a breakthrough in sales of 10 million strains, the highest in Taiwan flower exports and ranked the first among other seeding exports worldwide. Although orchid planting covers only 4% of the overall Taiwan landscape, the sales covers 23% of the floral industry. It is called ‘the golden flower industry’. In the international orchid market, Taiwan seizes over 50% of Phalaenopsis and 40% of the core production technology. These factors contribute to the idea of ‘roots in Taiwan, blossoms worldwide’.

The Taiwan International Orchid Show is held in March every year at the Taiwan Orchid Plantation- International Flora Exhibition Centre.
