Khamkirri and Augrabies
About 200kms west of Upington is one of the most scenic spots in South Africa, the Augrabies Falls National Park. Trevor heads to the Park’s eastern boundary at Khamkirri Private Game Reserve on the northern bank of the Orange River.
Khamkirri is more than just spectacular scenery. There are heaps of things to do including four-wheel-driving, quad biking, mountain biking, hiking, abseiling and white water rafting. Trevor tried out his skills at white water rafting, under the guidance of two experts of course. Not only is white water rafting a lot of fun, but it’s a great way to see the many beautiful attractions of South Africa.
One of these is the Augrabie Falls. Its name means place of the big noise and it is the sixth largest waterfall in the world. The best time to see the falls is in January and February when the falls reach their peak flow.
Trevor also discovers the best way to relax after a long day of white water rafting. The hot springs are only a half an hour drive away and are set amongst the natural landscape.
You can even camp here – to find out more, look for the links to the South African National Parks website at www.southafrica.net.
