Karijini Eco-Retreat

The Karijini Eco Retreat offers an authentic outback experience and gives visitors the chance to play a small but very important role in responsible tourism. Situated in the middle of Karijini National Park, the retreat provides accommodation with a difference.

The retreat is owned by the local Gumala Aboriginal Corporation which represents the collective interests of the three Aboriginal groups, Niapiali, Bunjima and Innawonga of the Pilbara region. The unique eco- tents are ecologically and sustainably designed and are set in a rugged, natural setting of spinifex and snappy gums. The retreat recycles their water and the 40 deluxe and 10 standard eco tents use solar systems to heat the water supply and solar panels to provide all power requirements. The retreat offers quality and affordable accommodation with stylish, luxurious and quality furnishings. Karijini Eco Retreat is walking distance to Joffre Gorge and is a good base to explore the other beautiful gorges, as well as the Fortesque Falls.

A great place to relax after enjoying Karijini is at the bar or outdoor alfresco restaurant. There are also BBQ facilities perfect for cooking up traditional tucker. These bush kitchens are scattered around the retreat and feature gas barbeques, sinks, preparation areas, seating and tables, all under large shade sails. After enjoying the day exploring Karijini, Neville and Trevor couldn’t wait to get a taste of the kangaroo, crocodile and emu sausages they prepared amidst the scenic landscape.

A small entry fee applies to Karijini National Park and is available at entry points to the park, the DriveWA online shop, the Department of Environment and Conservation or Karijini Eco-Retreat.
