Story: Sights of Chiang Mai by motorbike- Wat Prathat Doi Suthep Temple and Night Bazaar markets (Day 7)
Presenter: Nigel Ruck
One of the best ways to get around Chiang Mai and take in all the sights is on a motorbike. There are plenty of places to hire a bike from, and Nigel couldn?t wait to set out on his adventure.
- First stop was the Wat Prathat Doi Suthep Temple, located about 15 kilometres from Chiang Mai. The temple is a Holy Buddhist Temple and is very popular amongst locals and tourists alike.
- The temple is the most important temple in Chiang Mai and one of the most revered in all of Thailand.
- Wat Prathat Doi Suthep dates back to the fourteenth century and remains one of the most important remains of Lanna culture in Thailand.
- To get to the top, one must climb 300 steps but the effort is well worth it. There is a giant golden statue of the Buddha, the giant Chedi, beautiful views, murals and a small museum. There is a cable car that goes to the top for those who do not wish to take the stairs.
- After visiting the temple, Nigel got a taste of the market night life when he visited the Night Bazaar markets.
- The Night Bazaar market is one of Chiang Mai?s must sees. Every night, the market is packed with thousands of tourists and sellers.
- This is a great place to pick up a bargain- the market is one of the cheapest places for tourists to shop at. The many goods on sale include Thai silk, watches, shoes, handicrafts, clothes, antiques, accessories and much more.
- There is an international selection of food and heaps of entertainment provided by Thai dancers and musicians.
- You can sample a Thai delicacy at the markets - grasshoppers, if you are game!
- A good way to visit these attractions is on an organised tour, Imaginative Traveller guided the team through Chiang Mai so why not give them a call for more information.
